the night
is the mother of the day -
a stone with two faces
रात
है दिन की माता -
एक दो-मुँही पत्थर





the naked Buddha
always surrounded
by the rick colour of nothing
एक नंगा बुद्ध
सदैव घिरा रहता है
रिक्तता के कीमती रंग से






with her child
my sister returns home -
a peach tree in full bloom
अपने बच्चे के साथ
मेरी बहन घर लौटी है -
एक पूर्ण खिला आड़ू का पेड़







a lotus flower
like snow has its roots
amidst jet-black mud
एक कमल का फूल
है बर्फ जैसा जिसकी जड़ें हैं
बिल्कुल काली मिट्टी में


Ban’ya Natsuishi (Masayuki Inui) is a professor at Meiji University, Japan. In 1998, with Sayumi Kamakura, he founded the international haiku quarterly "Ginyu". He is the director of the World Haiku Association.
